Made entirely from magnetic sheeting the artist book “Hub” documents photographically a building implosion in downtown Detroit, Michigan. Photographs of the implosion were mounted on flexible magnetic material, then stacked, cut and carved to look like a brick. Once the title page is removed the book opens from a crack in the center. Pages slide outward to echo the way a cloud of dust moves along the ground plane moments after a building is imploded. Inspired by the decline of many industrial cities, the book uses the idea of a remnant to tell the story of a larger event.
